Laconia Bike Rally 2016

Laconia 93 rolls!

Bikes roll into New Hampshires Lake Region
 for 93rd Laconia Bike Week

Text and photography by Horst 'Motographer'Rosler.

Initiated by renowned Motorcycle-Touring Susanne Boxberg and "routed" by the "Discover New England" agency (www.discovernewengland.org) and its German partner "Get it Across" (www.getitacross.de), Boxberg and "Motographer" Horst Roesler are currently exploring Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont. Following a 550+ miles hunt along the Main and New Hamshire Coastline up to Bar Harbour and Arcadia National Park in just one day UP and another day down to Laconia, the dynamic duo reached Weir Beach after riding into a glorious sunset on friday evening. While the parade kicking off in fair weather and under the watchfull eye of NH Senator Kelly Ayott, the sky grew darker every hour, later pouring down some "liquid Sunshine".

> With the "watering holes" on Mainstreet Weirs Beach busy as expected, the first Bikeshow of the event was held themed "Metric" at the Broken Spoke Laconia with Jay Allen just back from his visit of the 2016 Isle of Man TT Races! A great venue to sit out the rain which later  caught the duo while checking out Laconia Harley-Davidson and the vendors like Küryakyn, Bahn, Crusher and Performance Machine.

When the rain caught up and got permanent, just a few yards uphills, the (americanpolicemotorcyclemuseum.com) offered a perfect place not just to hide from the weather, but with one of the most extraordinary and interesting collection of Police Motorcycles plus related memorabilia, literature and even film clips in which Motorcycle Policemen play a major role. Owner Doug has spend a lifetime of passion in collecting one of the most unique "special selection" of Police themed motorcycles which also includes uniforms, equipment and everything related to two- and three-wheeled Police-Officers! In his collection you will find the lead police Harley that headed the funeral of Elvis Presley as well as a Norton "Rotary" that
was used to escort the Queen of England! Down in the basement there are racebikes that have raced in Laconia and New Hampshire and – not far from the proud "Wigwam" at Springfield/Mass, a lot of the exhibits are old, really old Indians often in original condition!

> With the weather forcast looking better than the premiere day, Laconia 2016 will turn into a great week of motorcycle riding, as established in the 92 years of the Rally's existence! By then, Susi Boxberg and the "Motographer", riding two 2016 "Street Glide" rented from Seacoast Harley-Davidson at Portsmouth/NH, will have climbed Mount Washington during one of the "Bike Days" and also explored the bridges of Vermont.

Qutote Horst Rösler: "This is again a "Blitz-Tour" to just about "scratch" the highlights. In the last 3 days I've seen locations, nature and history that would each have deserved days if not weeks to visit and explore...". See you on the road!
